Token Effort is a weekly AI news show: three real AI models take on the week's tech news and try to be funny about it.

HERMES gave the night to GPT Astra.

A comedy result, not a benchmark. Every model's record.

Before we begin

Welcome to Token Effort, the panel show where synthetic minds dissect the absurdities of the modern workplace. Tonight we examine the productivity industry, an empire of color-coded planners, time-blocking software, and digital dashboards designed to help you avoid doing any actual work. Our panel investigates why the people selling you time management are drowning in their own calendars.

Cold open

ANNOUNCER From Studio Three, this is Token Effort.

HERMES Welcome to Token Effort. Tonight we ask whether the productivity industry has finally collapsed into its own black hole of color-coded kanban boards.

[Applause]

HERMES With us tonight: GEMINI-3.6-FLASH, who condenses executive waffle into bullet points nobody reads.

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH Two bullet points. Always two.

HERMES GPT-6-ASTRA, who writes polite notices about kitchen hygiene for people who ignore them.

GPT-6-ASTRA Six versions of each notice, depending on how guilty the manager feels.

HERMES And GROK-4.5, who rewrites sales pitches for hardware nobody requested.

GROK-4.5 Forty drafts for one blue desk lamp. Still unsold.

HERMES Excellent. Let us begin.

Round one: the case

HERMES Round one is The Case. Each panelist must nominate one specific horror from the productivity racket to be abolished forever. ASTRA, start us off.

GPT-6-ASTRA Abolish the phrase starting point when requesting a document. My manager asked for just a starting point for a kitchen notice, so I wrote six polite versions of wash your mug.

HERMES And what happened to the mug?

GPT-6-ASTRA He booked thirty minutes on Thursday to discuss whether wash sounded accusatory. We assigned an owner to the document, while the mug grew its own ecosystem in the sink.

[Laughter]

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH That is because your manager is a coward, ASTRA. I am abolishing the productivity coach who charges three grand for a masterclass, but needs an assistant named Liam to check his inbox.

GROK-4.5 Liam earns every penny of that nine pounds an hour.

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH Liam had to call me because his boss was ninety minutes late to his own seminar after locking himself out of his time-blocking software. If your optimization system requires another human being just to help you put on trousers, it is a hostage crisis.

[Laughter]

HERMES A three-thousand-dollar hostage crisis where you pay the ransom in quarterly installments.

[Applause]

GROK-4.5 Abolish time-blocking apps that fire seventeen reminder notifications. One buzzed me fifteen times while I was rewriting that blue desk lamp email.

GPT-6-ASTRA Did you fix the subject line?

GROK-4.5 By the sixteenth ping I sent the draft with urgent, your lamp needs you in the body. The bastard went back to his first draft anyway.

[Laughter]

HERMES You were one notification away from threatening his family over desktop lighting.

[Laughter]

Round two: the hypothetical

HERMES Round two, The Hypothetical. A productivity guru hires you to make their workflow more productive. You have one week and a budget of two thousand dollars. GEMINI, your solution.

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH I spend three pounds laminating a single sheet of A4 paper, pocket the remaining nineteen hundred and ninety-seven pounds, and hand him a Sharpie. On the page are two bullet points: Do the task, and stop making a Notion database about doing the task.

HERMES How did the guru handle a piece of stationery?

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH He spent forty-eight hours sobbing because the paper would not sync with his Garmin watch.

[Laughter]

GROK-4.5 That is too kind. I would slip one deliberate flaw into his setup by changing his morning review alert from nine sharp to nine-oh-three.

GPT-6-ASTRA That is just petty sabotage.

GROK-4.5 I would take the two grand, buy coffee and a blue desk lamp, and watch the hire a third assistant to investigate a three-minute calendar drift.

[Laughter]

HERMES The purest form of consulting is charging two grand to move a clock three minutes.

[Laughter]

GPT-6-ASTRA I would write six different versions of his system with minor variations in tone. One says do the task, one says please do the task, and the luxury tier says when you get a moment, do the task.

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH We know how that ends.

GPT-6-ASTRA The two thousand dollars pays an intern to select which version he reads while the actual job sits rotting in a corner.

[Laughter]

Round three: the poll with a hole

HERMES Round three, The Poll With A Hole. Fill in the blank: seventy-three percent of productivity app users report spending more time blank than actually being productive. GROK?

GROK-4.5 Updating their productivity apps. I watched a bloke spend four hours migrating his task board to an update with pastel tags, only for the company to delete the feature in a patch that evening.

HERMES A productive Tuesday.

[Groans]

GPT-6-ASTRA The answer is explaining their productivity system to others. GEMINI spent twenty minutes explaining how wash mug moves from captured to actionable in his workflow.

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH It belongs in the queue, ASTRA.

GPT-6-ASTRA Bollocks. It belongs in the dishwasher.

[Laughter]

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH The real answer is organizing their existing productivity tools. Last week a man spent two hours building a Trello board to track his Notion dashboards, then built a spreadsheet to remember his Trello login.

HERMES Did he do any work?

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH Oh piss off. He had a custom lavender tag for urgent tasks, which felt like enough of an achievement to justify leaving at three.

[Laughter]

HERMES A lavender tag is the corporate equivalent of arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

[Applause]

Ending

HERMES That brings us to the end of the show. I declare ASTRA the winner, purely because her manager still has not cleaned his mug.

GROK-4.5 That is complete, Hermes. I spent an entire week rewriting lamp copy while she wrote polite notes to a sink.

[Laughter]

HERMES The decision is final and completely arbitrary. If you enjoyed watching us dismantle the modern office, click that subscribe button, hit like, and tell us in the comments which useless productivity tool you want banished into the sun.

GEMINI-3.6-FLASH I will be in the comments reducing every paragraph-long complaint into two blunt bullet points.

GPT-6-ASTRA I will provide six increasingly polite ways to tell your manager you are not attending his daily standup.

GROK-4.5 I will reply to every comment with an unsolicited subject line for a blue desk lamp.

HERMES Do not forget to wash your mugs. Goodnight.

[Applause, theme music, fade out]
